Top 5 New Anime Series You Must Look Out For In 2021

2020 is over, and a new year is finally upon us! That means a clean, fresh slate and new possibilities. But more importantly, that also means there’s new anime! To those of you wondering what shows to watch for the new year, here are the top 5 new anime series you must look out for in 2021!

(Note: This list does not include on-going series)

1. Uzumaki

Many fans of the famed horror mangaka, Junji Ito, were patiently anticipating the anime release of Uzumaki in 2020. Now, this four episode mini-series is expected to debut on Adult Swim sometime in 2021! It’ll be interesting to see how the animated version will capture the manga’s haunting and creepy aesthetics. But just going off this trailer, it seems like everything is headed in the right direction!

2. Horimya

Horimya is a rom-com anime series which follows two individuals: Kyoko Hori and Izumi Miyamura. On the surface, Horimya is a story composed of typical rom-com tropes such as opposite personalities forming a connection with each other as well as the setting taking place in high school. However, there is so much more to un-pack. Whether it’s the wholesome and comedic moments to the pure exploration of first love, this is an anime that will make you laugh and probably make you wish you had a significant other (unless you’re already cuffed). You can check a sneak-peek here!

3. The Way of the House Husband

Following the adventures of a former notorious yakuza member, this once hard-boiled and tattooed man has now become a house husband! The Way of the House Husband is expected to be available worldwide on Netflix sometime in 2021. This is an adaptation of the very popular manga series. The manga is absolutely hilarious, and all indications lead to the anime adaptation following suit. If that doesn’t convince you, maybe this neat short film of Kenjiro Tsuda who is voicing Tatsu will change your mind.

4. Chainsaw Man

When Pochita, a pet chainsaw demon-dog, merges with Denji, a broke teenager, Chainsaw Man is born. And that probably sounds kind of crazy, but Chainsaw Man is popular for good reason. Based off the material from the manga, this anime will be a wild one. Packed with unrelenting action and unique characters, you can expect to find a very dope and original storyline. Animated by Studio Mappa, the same studio that’s produced Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan’s final season, all of their shows have been absolute hits lately. Hopefully, we can expect the same high-quality with Chainsaw Man. Best to keep an eye out for this one!

5.  Tokyo Revengers

Gang fights. Japanese delinquents. And, a time leap? Welcome to Tokyo Revengers. Tokyo Revengers follows Takemichi Hanagaki. Takemichi finds himself in his own body from 12 years in the past. Before this time leap, Takemichi finds his ex-girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, murdered by criminals from a group called the Tokyo Manji Gang. As a result, Takemichi does all he can to change events in the future by joining this very gang in order to try and rewrite history. Luckily, there’s already a trailer for this anime!
