5 Asian Grocery Items You NEED From Trader Joe’s

Everyone loves Trader Joe’s for its wide array of unique and healthy snacks. You can spend a whole day checking out all the flowers, cookies, salads, greeting cards, and weird candy they have to offer. But one thing you may not know about the trendy chain is that they have some pretty impressive Asian food. That’s right—you can go to your local Trader Joe’s for an Asian fusion fix. That’s what I did, and here’s what happened:

Spicy Mochi Rice Nuggets

If you have a penchant for snacks with a kick, I highly recommend this! These chips are light and crunchy like popcorn but with a nice savory twist. Be warned, though, you can’t eat too many of these at once because they are definitely on the spicier side.

Bulgogi Rice

Simple, classic, and tasty. Trader Joe’s Bulgogi Rice comes in a frozen pack so it’s very easy to cook when you’re in a hurry. You can add eggs, fresh carrots, or chili oil, but I found it to be pretty filling even without adding anything else.

Pork Shumai

Trader Joe’s take on this dim sum staple is pretty cut-and-dried. While it doesn’t offer much in the way of flavor, it pairs well with chili oil and soy sauce. If you happen to be craving shumai, it will do the job for sure.

Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream

By far, my favorite section at Trader Joe’s is the dessert, and this proves why! All of the Mochi Ice Cream flavors at Trader Joe’s are great, but this flavor in particular is a must try. The sweetness is very subtle, so it doesn’t overpower the creaminess and green tea flavor of the dessert.

Kung-Pao Chicken Mochi Balls

I think you can tell by now that I really like mochi. When I saw this in the frozen section of the store, I was immediately intrigued. Kung-Pao chicken and mochi? Surprisingly, it works! Pop these in the oven for about 10 minutes and you get what I imagine an “the Asian pizza roll” would be. Honestly, it tastes exactly like you’d expect—the sweetness of the mochi outer wrapping and a very flavorful Kung-Pao filling make an interesting combo. Try it at least once!
